Our ability to celebrate both our successes and failures as milestones of progress opens the door to tremendous breakthroughs.About The RoleReporting to the Finance Director, the Senior Accountant serves as the Finance lead for accounting functions including but not limited to monthly closing, financial reporting, quarterly and year-end statements and other management reports. The Senior Accountant performs and oversees quality accounting operations including accounting, related policies and processes,e and compliance work. The Senior Accountant's responsibility is to ensure internal controls are in place for the accounting, compliance and financial management operations and systems. This includes the accounting systems and controls governing processes for: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash receipts and cash balances and fund allocations, regulatory compliances, revenue recognition, deferred COGS, and being key person in leading the Company's first audit.This full-time role reports directly to the Director of Finance. The role can be Remote, but if in California, will be based in Berkeley.ResponsibilitiesImplement, improve and document accounting policies/procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy, including administering training on the ERP, accounting concepts, and processes.------Execute monthly closing activities including preparation of journal entries, account analyses, and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.Perform analytical reviews, including researching variances between actual monthly expense activities and budget, as neededCoordinates annual financial audit and tax preparation with the Finance Director. Submit monthly/quarterly sales tax filings.Participate in special projects such as system enhancements and implementations, and other ad hoc projects.RequirementsAdvanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks,, payroll systems, expense report systems, and CRM, is a plusStrong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to see the big picture while understanding the details involved and the ramifications of decisions. Experience in implementation of accounting policies/processes and memos and ability to understand and adopt Accounting Codifications.Strong verbal and written communication skills. Exercises excellent judgment in handling confidential information and other potentially-sensitive matters. Demonstrates ability to engage in a direct and truthful manner; ability to present accurate and appropriate information. Demonstrates ability to maintain high-level and consistent work ethic in working relationships and all work-related duties. Strong motivation and an ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks and assignments. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and appreciation for diverse viewpoints, different communication styles, and a wide range of diverse colleagues.
