CIP's programs are specially designated to help young adults make successful transitions from adolescence to young adulthood. Our vision is to challenge the norms of what people with learning differences can achieve.Position OverviewThe Life Skills Coach works with students in helping them to become well-rounded, informed citizens who can live independent and self-sufficient lives as well as navigate the community. As we're a residential program, we have an ongoing need for evening and weekend support of our amazing students.ObjectivesAssist student in building independent living skills competencies and routines to develop the ability to live independently after CIPEngage students in productively exploring and connecting within the communityEnsure a high level of health and safety within one's living environment and the communityStandard ActivitiesOversees students in their residential settings providing a safe environment for learning skills necessary for independencePossesses detailed knowledge of emergency and safety procedures and attends regular trainings on related topicsTeaches students all aspects involved in apartment cleanliness and maintenanceConducts grocery shopping with student as well as individual or group cooking instruction and kitchen clean upConducts appropriate Executive Functioning appointments with students based on their needs and coordinates with staff accordinglyProvide or coordinate student transportation on travel daysSupervises student weekend activitiesConducts roommate meetings in order to facilitate appropriate communication in the student's residencesAssist students in handling challenges and when necessary uses de-escalation techniques and other strategiesCommunicate student progress and challenges to Life Skills CoordinatorReceives input from other direct support functions in order to carry out appropriate evening support plansAssists with minor residential maintenance issuesOther duties as requiredRequired Education / ExperienceAssociate's degree (or in pursuit of) from an accredited institution in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field bachelor's degree is preferred.Proficient with office utility computer software programs and a quick learner in new technologiesPreferred Education / ExperienceExperience in the field of autism and/or learning disabilities especially in a residential settingTravelMinimal travel outside of local area
