Senior Engineer Taxonomy & Master Data Management


The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Engineer Taxonomy and MDM, are to:

  • Proactively work with partners across the Biotech and CGT organization to identify, structure, standardize, and provide master and metadata for further use;
  • Define data governance and stewardship procedures in accordance with Bayer standards and develops methods to ensure accuracy, completeness, and uniformity of data, information, and knowledge sources;
  • Extend, optimize, and manage Biotech 's existing taxonomy, identify master and meta data sources, manages local master and meta data and works with various groups to define respective master and meta data;
  • Develop semantic models representing bioprocesses and respective knowledge, using state of the art methods, e.g. ontologies and knowledge graphs;
  • Establish and update APIs between software solutions that use Taxonomy based metadata;
  • Define requirements for or prototypes (IT) systems that can represent and use respective models and are used by the organization to efficiently capture and retrieve information and knowledge, work with data engineering or other teams to industrialize respective solutions;
  • Lead cross-functional teams and projects with internal and external Partners.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Science with at least eight years of relevant experience or Master of Science in Engineering or Science with at least four years of relevant experience or Ph.D. in Engineering or Science with at least two years of experience;
    • Able to independently work on complex technical topics and solutions and possesses strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
    • Demonstrate the ability to think creatively, takes initiative and be able to learn new technical topics and develop new technical skills quickly;
    • Demonstrate the ability to clearly structure and abstract problems and provide sustainable solutions;
    • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to clearly and effectively communicate complex concepts and insights in English;
    • Have a strong background in developing taxonomies and use of respective tools (e.g. TopBraid);
    • Have a strong background in master and meta data management;
    • Able to lead cross-functional project teams as a subject matter expert.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience with data catalogs (e.g. Collibra);
      • Experience with relevant frameworks like RDF, RDFS, SHACL, SPARQL and OWL;
      • Experience with cloud-based development environments (e.g. Domino Datalabs, Git);
      • Experience in building ontologies and semantic models;
      • Experience in biological process development, manufacturing sciences or manufacturing environment;
      • Working knowledge of German language;
