October 27, 2023 Responsibilities
Provides administrative and
leadership direction in overseeing and maintaining the grounds,
landscaping, Integrated Pest Management, Garage Maintenance and
arboriculture program. The Grounds Manager provides administrative
and leadership direction in overseeing and maintaining facilities
vehicles, encompassing a fleet of vehicles, including cars, trucks,
golf and utility carts, heavy duty trucks and tractors for use in
grounds. The manager oversees and provides work management
direction for related job tasks, including grounds, garage, and
arboriculture maintenance schedules, frequencies, and equipment
types used as well as the activation and deactivation of equipment;
communicates and meets routinely with Facilities Management -
Campus, Utilities, and Capital Projects Managers to define and
prioritize needs in accordance with the planning, designing, and
implementation of the University's Landscape Master Plan. Creates
long and short terms strategies in the planning, organizing and
direction of the department routine landscape/grounds keeping,
irrigation, and pest control operations. Oversees and the
supervision and training of landscape/grounds keeping, irrigation,
and pest control staff to maintain an orderly, safe, and efficient
cleaning operation. Requires knowledge in the care and use of power
equipment. Directly manages superintendents and staff support
personnel; leads a 'Safety First' work culture; ensures compliance
with all safe operating procedures and standards and ensures
departmental compliance, including contractors, with all federal
and state statutory codes and regulations as well as safety and
environmental regulations. Develops Key Performance Indicators
(KPI's) to be measured to ensure customer requirements are met or
exceeded in accordance with established procedures, processes, and
schedules; utilizes established systems to ensure grounds and
equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks,
schedules, and completions are monitored for compliance with
requirements and communicated directly with staff members.
Collaborates with superintendent and supervisors to ensure accurate
and complete information is provided regarding daily work
performed, time to perform, parts and equipment used, etc.;
analyzes information, uses logic, and develops new ideas and
answers to address work-related issues and/or problems; and
executes priorities in order to improve response time and
facility/equipment reliability. Oversees fiscal responsibilities
associated with funded projects, renovations, and maintenance
repairs for grounds, irrigation services, and arboriculture;
monitors cost center allocations; obtains and reviews relevant cost
information, constraints, compliance, etc., to ensure overall
quality, compliance, and cost containment; participates in budget
preparation and administration; monitors costs and unit
expenditures and reviews budget detail monthly with Associate
Director. May be responsible for coordinating programs (water
abatement, weed abatement & irrigation) with various municipalities
such as East Bay Mud, East Bay Regional Parks, PG&E and City of
Berkeley, et cetera. Required Qualifications
Strong skills to facilitate and
collaborate with various internal and external constituencies on
long- and short-term facilities planning and management. Strong
analytical, research and report preparation skills to meet
regulatory and budgetary reporting requirements. Broad knowledge in
the areas of facilities management, space planning and allocation,
security, fire and safety and emergency preparedness. Strong skills
in management, regulatory compliance and operations planning.
Strong skills in leadership, motivation of staff and team-building.
Strong skills in verbal and written communications. Experience and
knowledge to inspect construction in progress of general and
specialty structures, read, sketch and interpret plans and
specifications. Working knowledge of the International Building
Code, EPA/EPD regulations, ADA law, state procurement law, OSHA
regulations. Sustainability best practices, building systems,
cleaning and grounds best practices. CMMS work request systems,
ability to interpret facilities performance indicators, facilities
data analysis. Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in landscape
architecture, horticulture or a related field plus a minimum of 5
years of full-time experience in managing contractors or in-house
staff grounds/landscape staff preferred; or related associate's
degree plus a minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in
managing grounds/landscape staff; or a minimum of 10 years
full-time verifiable experience in facilities management or
management of skilled trades technicians; and/or equivalent
experience/training. Licesnses/Certifications:
CEFP, completion of APPA Institute.

APPA - Certified Educational
Facilities Professional. PGMS - Certified Grounds Manager. Salary &
Benefits For information on the comprehensive benefits package

reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and
should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job
announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of
factors that are considered in making compensation decisions
including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge,
abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of
internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is
not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the
top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based
on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted
salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to
pay for this position is $120,000.00 - $140,000.00.
This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours
per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
