Job Title: ICU Nurse-Staff II Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (07:00 - 19:30) Experience: 3 years of RN ICU experience License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: CA RN License BLS ACLS Previous charge experience (2 years) Epic charting system experience Description: The ICU Nurse will provide critical care to adult and geriatric patients. Daily census in the unit is approximately 12 patients. The nurse will manage a patient ratio of 2:1. The nurse may float to other units within the scope of practice as needed. There is an expectation for flexibility with floating to different campuses or within the hospital. Travel nurses can anticipate notice of 1.5 hours prior to shift start time in most cases. Shuttle service is provided if floating is required. The nurse will be responsible for accessing and managing central and arterial lines. Chronic and acute renal failure management is required. Care of ventilated patients is a critical function. The nurse will assist with chest tube insertion and management of ventilatory support such as CPAP and BiPAP. Blood product administration is part of the responsibilities. The nurse must manage IV sedation and continuous IV paralytics. Emergency medication administration is expected in critical situations. Interpretation of arterial blood gases is necessary. Utilization of infection prevention protocols is essential. The nurse will also perform phlebotomy and start/maintain IVs. Care for patients with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury is part of the role. Neuro intensive care unit experience is preferred. Special procedures including lumbar drains and post-neurosurgery management may be required. Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips is part of the daily tasks. The nurse will independently manage patient interactions and clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
