College Chefs is looking to add an experienced Kitchen Assistant to our team on the UC Berkeley campus!The changing hospitality industry has shown us one thing...no longer are long hours, late nights and working every single weekend accepted and the "norm" of the industry. Apply today to join the College Chefs team of badasses!Position SummaryResponsible for assisting Chef in all aspects of food preparation and maintaining a clean kitchen/dining room.Duties and Responsibilities:Food preparation and execution as directed by Head Chef and/or Sous ChefMaintain a clean and sanitary kitchen/dining room including but not limited to tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, saut-- - burners, convection oven, flat top range, refrigeration equipment, and floorsWash all pots, pans, utensils, food preparation equipment, dishes, etc.Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customersMaintain close communication with management in various forms including but not limited to phone calls, emails, and text messages.Stock supplies, such as food or utensils, in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, or salad bars.Assist in unloading and putting away truck deliveriesSort and remove the trash, placing it in designated pickup areas.Follow all policies laid out by College ChefsCompetenciesAbility to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.Ability to deal with challenging customers in a professional mannerOther DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.Required Skills and Abilities:Basic understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and proceduresFamiliar with the industrys best practices 1+ years in a full-service restaurant as a prep/line cookMay be required to hold a valid food handlers sanitation certification (May vary based on state/county regulations)Special Demands:The work environment can be loud and busy. There are many kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces and liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors.Required to stand for long periods as well as walk, bend and stoop.Must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.Exposure to cleaning chemicals
