We are seeking a Strategic Communications Projects Lead to manage focused communications projects designed to help the Laboratory achieve its strategic goals.

In this role, you will work with Berkeley Lab leaders and subject matter experts to develop and lead strategic communication plans and campaigns that involve multiple research areas and capabilities. You will assess and address the information needs of Berkeley Lab s critical stakeholders at the federal, regional, state, and local levels. As a member of the Strategic Communications team, you will develop written and multimedia content that informs and engages key stakeholders in the Lab s research programs and capabilities, grows Berkeley Lab's reputation as a world leader in scientific research, and positions the Lab for programmatic opportunities. Envision a typical week consisting of: developing and executing multiple communications plans working with cross-Lab teams; providing guidance to web developers on online projects and developing content for websites; coordinating with communications leads and research staff across Berkeley Lab and partner institutions; and drawing from your broad communications background, conceptualizing and coordinating the development of communications products that transform scientific results into stakeholder understanding and engagement.

A major initial responsibility will be managing a 2-year online content strategy and web redesign project, which is being led by the Strategic Communications Department, involving multiple internal stakeholders with external consulting assistance. This will require in-depth knowledge and experience with complex web redesign projects, a collaborative spirit, and solid project management expertise.

*

Collaborate effectively with leadership and employees throughout Berkeley Lab, and with key contacts at partner institutions, to achieve strategic outcomes for the Lab and that promote the value of public investment in science.
*

Provide guidance on messaging and branding related to special projects.
*

Assist with department emergency communications responsibilities, as needed, occasionally after hours.

Assist with media relations and social media responsibilities, as needed.

What is Required:

*

Strong project management background and skills, with demonstrated experience planning, managing, and leading complex, targeted communications projects with defined and measured outcomes.
*

Experience managing multi-stakeholder web content strategy and/or redesign projects.
*

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and advise senior leaders, subject matter experts, and communications staff to develop and gain support for communication strategies, plans, and products.
*

Demonstrated success working with scientists to negotiate the translation of scientific information into curated, compelling content for a variety of non-scientific audiences.

*

Demonstrated experience planning and developing compelling content, drawing from a broad set of communications competencies, including strong journalism-based research, interview, writing, and editing skills.
*

Experience with web-based communications tools, including content management systems.
*
