Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is the home of world-class

Department shares and promotes Berkeley Lab s scientific,
institutional, and operational priorities with key internal and
external audiences. We are seeking a Strategic Communications
Projects Lead to manage focused communications projects designed to
help the Laboratory achieve its strategic goals.
In this role, you will work with Berkeley Lab leaders and subject
matter experts to develop and lead strategic communication plans
and campaigns that involve multiple research areas and
capabilities. You will assess and address the information needs of
Berkeley Lab s critical stakeholders at the federal, regional,
state, and local levels. As a member of the Strategic
Communications team, you will develop written and multimedia
content that informs and engages key stakeholders in the Lab s
research programs and capabilities, grows Berkeley Lab's reputation
as a world leader in scientific research, and positions the Lab for
programmatic opportunities. Envision a typical week consisting of:
developing and executing multiple communications plans working with
cross-Lab teams; providing guidance to web developers on online
projects and developing content for websites; coordinating with
communications leads and research staff across Berkeley Lab and
partner institutions; and drawing from your broad communications
background, conceptualizing and coordinating the development of
communications products that transform scientific results into
stakeholder understanding and engagement.
A major initial responsibility will be managing a 2-year online
content strategy and web redesign project, which is being led by
the Strategic Communications Department, involving multiple
internal stakeholders with external consulting assistance. This
will require in-depth knowledge and experience with complex web
redesign projects, a collaborative spirit, and solid project
What You Will Do:
Develop and lead the implementation of targeted communication
strategies, plans, projects, and tactics for Berkeley Lab and
objectively assess and report on their effectiveness.
Conceptualize and coordinate the development of written, audio,
video, multimedia, online, and in-person events, as needed to
execute communications strategies, plans, and projects.
Manage the Lab s 2-year web content strategy and redesign project,
which is being led by the Strategic Communications Department
involving multiple internal stakeholders.
Collaborate effectively with leadership and employees throughout
Berkeley Lab, and with key contacts at partner institutions, to
achieve strategic outcomes for the Lab and that promote the value
of public investment in science.
Provide guidance on messaging and branding related to special

What is Required:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a
Science discipline relevant to Berkeley Lab s research areas, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 8 years of related experience in organizational
Strong project management background and skills, with demonstrated
experience planning, managing, and leading complex, targeted
communications projects with defined and measured outcomes.
Experience managing multi-stakeholder web content strategy and/or
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and advise senior leaders,
subject matter experts, and communications staff to develop and
gain support for communication strategies, plans, and products.
Demonstrated success working with scientists to negotiate the
translation of scientific information into curated, compelling
content for a variety of non-scientific audiences.
Demonstrated experience planning and developing compelling content,
drawing from a broad set of communications competencies, including
strong journalism-based research, interview, writing, and editing
Experience with web-based communications tools, including content
Track record of working well under pressure, during tight
deadlines, with tact and professionalism.
Experience working with confidential information.
Project management certification or training.
Experience serving as a resource to members of the news media.
Experience within a national laboratory or other science-based
