Expert Engineer Process Control Technologies


The primary responsibilities of this role, Expert Engineer Process Control Technologies, are to:

  • Be responsible for capital investment projects and be accountable for meeting all scope requirements, including product quality and design capacity, completing project within the scheduled time frame and completing within budget;
  • Be directly responsible for control of the project scope, quality, schedule and cost, acting as either a Project Manager on single discipline projects or in close cooperation with a dedicated PM on larger capital projects;
  • Provide supervision of a project team with members from engineering services, discipline personnel, plant site, etc. assigned to the project;
  • Be the liaison between the contractor and Bayer for the Process Control Technology (PCT) discipline, working in close cooperation with the PM, for design work or other support functions performed by an outside firm;
  • Be responsible to ensure that all the required resources are identified and available for these projects;
  • Manage the implementation of capital projects for the PCT discipline. Including concept development, establishment of project team(s), basic engineering, process transfer and optimization, technical and economic evaluation of alternatives, scope definition and control, estimating, scheduling, development of Appropriation Request, cost and schedule compliance, detailed engineering and design, compliance with engineering, safety and environmental standards and procedures, permit applications, compliance with cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices), procurement of goods and services, commissioning, qualification and validation (required for Healthcare Projects);
  • Identify requirements and help secure the necessary engineering disciplines, engineering services, procurement, construction support and qualification resources to execute capital plans and/or assigned projects (internal and/or outsourcing);
  • Supervise and manage the activities of project engineers, process engineers, automation engineers and all other discipline personnel assigned to the projects;
  • Coordinate activities as required with Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Line Functions;
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the many support groups within the Corporation in order to obtain timely input of their requirements into the capital projects and their assistance in project execution. Including Corporate and Site Environmental Control, Industrial Hygiene and Plant Safety, Site Mechanical, Process and PCT Engineering and Maintenance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Accounting, Legal, Quality and Regulatory Affairs;
  • Participate in Project Steering Committees and function as focal point between Project Team and Steering Committee on project issues and decisions;
  • Maintain a liaison relationship with Bayer AG colleagues during process technology transfers, technology selections and during other appropriate project execution phases;
  • Provide management with updated analysis and projections on the status of capital projects focusing on management of change, schedule compliance, cost control and major project highlights.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university (or equivalent) in Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Architecture, Electromechanics, Mechatronics, Industrial, or Information Systems engineering with strong interest in control and/or power systems with at least 9 years of experience; or Master of Science degree with at least 7 years of experience; or Ph.D. degree with at least 5 years of experience;
  • Professional registration and/or certification as appropriate;
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or industrial facilities in PCT design and engineering or equivalent experience;
  • Successful candidate must possess experience in cGMP environments;
  • In-depth knowledge of PCT project engineering management principles and practices, pharmaceutical and biotech process technology, and pharmaceutical industry regulations;
  • Managerial abilities to supervise and lead a large group of PCT technical people on a multi-disciplined team for major capital projects;
  • Experience in all phases of a project from conceptual planning and design through qualification/validation and regulatory licensing;
  • Significant experience directly related to the principles and procedures (both in-house and outsourcing methods) o process/project engineering and experience in controlling and integrating the activities associated with design/construction projects. Such experience would typically be gained through the following combination of engineering education and PCT project engineering/management job exposure;
  • An understanding of general business principles and procedures is beneficial in the handling of cost-related aspects of project management. Evaluation of proposals from various levels of people and groups (both within and outside the company), is frequent and requires good communicative skills and the ability to influence and direct others toward common objectives;
  • Good communication skills and computer literacy;
  • Business-proficiency of oral and written English language;
  • Willingness and availability to travel 20 - 50% depending on project or business needs;
  • General understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and responsibilities.
