Development Scientist Isolation & Purification


The primary responsibilities of this role, Development Scientist Isolation and Purification, are to:

  • Demonstrate an in-depth broad scientific and operational knowledge for one functional development area and apply this to the development process;
  • Independently design and conduct process development experiments, assays, or procedures of considerable complexity with considerable discretion as to work details requiring complicated scientific analysis, operational planning and execution;
  • Apply knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements to practice in own functional area;
  • Analyze and interpret results, systems or procedures;
  • Troubleshoot failed experiments, assays or procedures;
  • Make changes as appropriate;
  • Overcome obstacles and recommend new and innovative solutions to problems utilizing high degree of scientific creativity, independent thought and proficiency;
  • Assist, counsel and coordinate project or departmental activities and ensure the flow of communications and/or interim supervisory functions;
  • Interpret and effectively communicate complex scientific findings in one-on-one discussions, and department and functional meetings;
  • Keep abreast of current and new science and technological developments with regard to literature/publication within field of specialty and exploit them to continuously improve functional area capabilities;
  • Participate in the development of patent applications.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biological Science, or equivalent with at least six years of relevant experience OR Master of Science with at least two years of relevant experience OR Ph.D.;
    • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments, systems, methods development, validation, scale-up or operations;
    • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot problems requiring original thought;
    • Demonstrated knowledge in field of expertise (i.e. unit operation, of literature, new developments, technologies and regulations);
    • Understand how GMP requirements are applied to practice from development to clinical manufacturing;
    • Ability to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results including new assignments;
    • Ability to solve complex and diverse scientific problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning;
    • Demonstrated success for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical reports and presentations;
    • Previous experience in a leadership role in a team setting;
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft suite of Software (Word, Excel, Power point);
    • Demonstrated technical understanding and hands-on skills involving cell culture clarification (depth filtration), column (affinity, IEX, MMC) and membrane chromatography, viral filtration, and tangential flow filtration (UFDF) technologies.
    • Demonstrated technical understanding and hands-on skills to execute and troubleshoot operational issues associated with AKTA Avant and Unicorn software.
    • Demonstrated technical understanding to analyze data derived from analytical methods such as HPLC, SDS-PAGE/CE-SDS, AAV (adeno associated virus) titer, protein quantitation by SoloVPE, host cell protein by ELISA and host cell DNA by qPCR, AAV capsid, empty/full ratio, and protein characterization assays.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Experienced in downstream viral clearance study, process characterization, DoE, JMP, Matlab data analysis and high throughput purification development (HTPD) and automation techniques such as Tecan are plus. YOUR APPLICATION
