The Department of Recreational Sports offers members of the UC
Berkeley community an extraordinary experience to live active and

Programs and services range from group fitness, aquatics, adventure
trips, drop-in fitness and recreation, intramural sports, sport
clubs, personal training, WorkFit, and many other activities.
Recreational Sports is enhanced by its indoor and outdoor
facilities, including three indoor locations, four pools, five
tennis courts, and an outdoor adventure center at the Berkeley
Marina.

Responsibilities
SUPPORT & COACHING (20%)
* Provide assistance in training, support and coaching to
Gymnastics Coaches/Staff.
* Maintain and promote the health, safety, and well-being of
Gymnastics Coaches/Staff.
* Support the Leads in the development, implementation, and
documentation of professional development program for Gymnastics
Coaches/Staff.
* Ensure all coaches are adhering to and understand all stated
policies and procedures of the Recreational Sports Department, and
UC Berkeley, while providing a safe, fun, and educational
skills-based experience for all youth gymnasts/participants in
accordance with USAG.
* Assists with supporting and guiding Gymnastics coaches/staff with
lesson planning of workouts.
ADMINISTRATIVE (20%)
* Assists with repairing, maintaining and processing all forms and
paperwork accurately and promptly (rosters, accident reports,
timesheets, equipment, staff paperwork, etc.).
* Assists with developing and maintaining a process for quality
control and risk assessment in programs in coordination with
Gymnastics Management Team.
* Assists with developing and implementing assessments and
coordination of levels and groups in assigned areas.
* Assists with providing comprehensive seasonal reports including
assessments, gymnast level recommendations, etc.
* Communicate and work closely with supervisor and Leads on all
aspects of customer service, paperwork, facility, program
development, and staff supervision.
PROGRAMMATIC
* Assists with supervising, organizing, and recommends class/team
practice rotation schedules, including attendance, activity
rotations, and warm-ups.
* Plan, implement, and lead classes/team practice as needed or
assigned.
* Set Level requirements for assigned areas in coordination with
Head Coach and Gymnastics Management Team.
* Coordinate scheduling of choreography as needed or assigned.
* Communicate and resolve issues with parents of gymnasts on
gymnasts' progress or perceived problems.
* Administer first aid as needed and in accordance with
training/certification.
* Evaluate existing programs and logistics on an ongoing basis and
develop methods to improve program and service delivery.
* Support Head Coach and Leads with ensuring all staff have safe
and appropriate equipment and supplies.
* Adapt to new situations and sudden changes or problems.
MISCELLANEOUS
* Display appropriate behavior (action and language) around
gymnasts/participants, parents, and staff.
* Follows all Golden Bear Youth Gymnastics policies and procedures
including, wearing required attire and following agreed upon work
schedule.
* Demonstrate good judgment.
* Complete all tasks in a timely manner as specified or requested
by your supervisor.
* Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by supervisor.
* Support Special Events and represent Golden Bears Youth
Gymnastics at external events, meets, and competitions as
assigned.
* Coordinate Meet Registrations, and travel for assigned staff as
needed or directed.
* Co-Coordinate ordering of Gymnastics supplies, equipment,
gymnast/coach attire and gear.
Certifications
* Maintain Red Cross First Aid CPR certifications
Required Qualifications
* Has advanced knowledge of Youth Competitive and/or Recreational
Gymnastics, program planning/development, program structures,
classroom management, and youth learning styles.
* Has strong management skills and knowledge of group dynamics.
* Position requires work leadership and inter-personal skills, and
the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally
and externally.
* Service orientation, program management, sound judgment and
decision-making, critical thinking, ability to develop original
ideas, creative problem-solving skills in a varied and challenging
environment.
* Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative
thinking.
* Must have highly effective verbal and written communication
skills.
* Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications.
* Knowledge of and/or ability to learn campus policies and
procedures.
Education
* High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
* At least three years (or 36 months) previous experience leading
and coaching youth in a gymnastics gymnasium, or equivalent
experience is required.
Certifications
* Red Cross Infant/Child/Adult CPR certification required.
* Member in Good Standing with USAG.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
* Some college or Associate Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree
preferred.
Salary & Benefits
* This is a 100% full-time, 40-hours per week, Contract
appointment, eligible for full UC benefits.
* This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly
pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
