Summary
The Development Accountant (DA), under the general supervision of RCD's Development Controller, has the responsibility to manage development invoicing, budgets and accounting, as well general accounting duties as assigned. The DA is responsible for preparing development and grant invoices, managing the existing master budget, and overseeing audits. Development projects range from small rehabs of existing RCD assets to complicated new construction and acquisition rehab projects with multiple financing sources. With a large pipeline and 6 new construction developments comprising over 500 units currently under construction, this is a dynamic and exciting role.Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Development accounting (60%)
  • Oversee and reconcile restricted cash worksheets.
  • Update predevelopment budgets for projects that have not started construction.
  • Review documentation and approvals for all development costs.
  • Set up and manage master budget to actual worksheet with Project Manager's input, including mapping to construction lender's budget template.
  • Work with Project Manager on budget modifications.
  • Prepare draws and follow up with funding agencies to resolve issues and collect payment.
  • Reconcile to general ledger.
  • Prepare and manage cost certification audits.
  • Work with Project Manager and Controller to close construction and permanent loans.
  • General accounting (25%)
  • Assist with preparation of RCD corporate quarterly and annual financials.
  • Prepare worksheets for 100% RCD owned properties.
  • Oversee audits for entities in operation under general supervision. Review financials, prepare supporting schedules, provide adjusting entries, provide documentation to auditors, and resolve questions.
  • Perform other duties as needed (15%)
  • Work with lenders to reconcile loan confirmation discrepancies
  • Implement transfers of assets and liabilities from RCD corporate to stand-alone entities: set up financial systems for new entities, reconcile all inter-entity transactions, prepare adjustments
  • Account for acquisition, construction and permanent loan escrow closings.
  • Assist with redesign of accounting software, worksheets and procedures.
  • Other tasks to assist Controller as needed.

    Qualifications & Skill Set Qualified applicants should have at least three years of progressive experience in accounting and/or finance. The position requires a strong knowledge of accounting and finance as generally relates to real estate, with a specific focus on affordable multifamily development and ownership which may be gained on the job. Ideal candidates will possess a 'can-do' attitude and enjoy working as part of a team toward a common mission.

  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to juggle and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fun yet fast-paced environment
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Strong Excel ability, including facility with lookup functions
  • Familiarity with affordable housing financing programs preferred but not required
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, MRI, YARDI and/or Salesforce a plus

    Work Environment RCD is currently practicing a hybrid work model. Depending on your distance from our main office in Berkeley, you will be expected to work up to two days in the office.

    Travel Requirements The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area.

    Physical Requirements While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear. Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor and phone. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally.     The salary range for this position is $80,400.00 to $88,900.00. Exactly where a prospective employee will be paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, the actual salary ranges for current and former employees who are either currently filling a similar role or did in the past; the candidate's depth of experience and qualifications; the level of specialization the role requires; budgetary considerations; the market demand for that role, and the local market conditions where the employee will be based.
