Job Description:
The Product Policy team is responsible for the development,
implementation, enforcement, and communication of the policies that
govern the use of OpenAI's services, including ChatGPT, GPTs, the
GPT store, and the OpenAI API. The team is instrumental in
developing policy frameworks and strategic priorities to best
enable both innovative and responsible use of AI so that our
groundbreaking technologies are truly used to benefit all people in
pursuit of our mission.About the RoleAs Data Scientist and early
member of our Measurement team on Product Policy, you will help to
ensure a data-driven policy development culture at OpenAI. You will
leverage data on user behavior to define short and long-term policy
priorities, analyze trade-offs, and define 'north star' metrics
that measure the success of our policies & enforcements.This role
is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days
in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new
employees.In this role, you will:
- Embed as a member of the product policy team, focused on
applying data-insights to the full lifecycle of policy development,
implementation, and enforcement.
- Stand up an initial assessment of policy priorities using
internal data.
- Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization,
including with Policy Research, Safety Systems, Intel &
Investigations, Global Affairs, to coordinate research and data
insights.
- Establish a data-driven policy development culture by driving
the definition, tracking, and operationalizing of policy-success
metrics.
- Develop and socialize dashboards, reports, and other ways of
enabling the team and company to answer policy data questions.You
might thrive in this role if you have:
- 7+ years experience in a quantitative role navigating highly
ambiguous environments, ideally as a founding data scientist,
researcher, or product analyst.
- Defined, implemented, and operationalized new feature and
product-level metrics from scratch, especially in ambiguous areas
related to AI policy or social science.
- Strategic insights beyond the paradigm of statistical
significance testing.
- An interest in user behavior and identifying optimized
approaches to hard problems.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to
communicate with product managers, engineers, researchers, and
executives alike.You could be an especially great fit if you
have:
- A background in social science, philosophy, ethics, and/or
economics.
- Familiarity with major AI policy questions facing the company
