Maintenance Mechanic B -Electrical


The primary responsibilities of this role, Maintenance Mech B/Elec, are to:

  • Perform scheduled predictive and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting/repair and project support of all site electrical equipment and components, including but not limited to motor control centers, lighting and variable frequency drive operation and programing;
  • Be responsible for performing daily maintenance work schedule attainment, data recording and reporting of work orders;
  • Be responsible for assessing the accuracy of electrical procedures (SOPs) and provide feedback to the document owner;
  • Support and comply with Bayer Berkeley's commitment to health, safety and environmental protection initiatives and programs;
  • Take part in safety meetings as required, and advises relevant personnel (e.g. supervisor, etc.) of any non-conforming conditions;
  • Have communication with all departments to schedule and follow-up on activities;
  • Interact with Reliability Group, Plant Engineer, Project Management group or other technical system owners to provide expertise and/or input on specific electrical related inquires, issues, and/or adverse trends in support of site systems and installations;
  • Be responsible for providing equipment reliability feedback, such as notification damage codes and logbook entries for issues and/or adverse trends;
  • Perform pre-task plan and JSA 's (Job Safety Analysis);
  • Operate, program and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drive (VFDs) and Benchtop Meter work;
  • Interface with Production team maintenance scheduler to provide instrumentation craft support for troubleshooting and repairs of equipment;
  • Review all completed work orders and verify completion of work, report discrepancies, verify work order history is complete and close out work order;
  • Provide technical and/or manpower support to the site to ensure equipment reliability;
  • Perform problem solving on specific electrical issues related to air handlers, control panels, freezers, cold rooms, exhaust fans, hot and cold water systems and condensate pumps;
  • Check de-energized Electrical components IAW NFPA 70E requirements;
  • Perform troubleshooting IAW NFPA 70E requirements;
  • Be able to assist with the following "all craft" maintenance tasks;
    • Change valve diaphragms (non-feedback valves);
    • Support functional checks and calibration readings;
    • Work on mechanical portion of control valves (diaphragm and bonnet);
    • Support HVAC/R;
    • Filter changes;
    • Take reading for magnehelic gauges and read A/H air flows and filter d/p 's off of control panels;
    • Rig (500 pounds or less);
    • Work on safety monitoring for PM 's/CAL 's (example: door watch for freezer work);
    • Replace Sanitary piping gaskets for non-calibrations;
    • Investigate and report/repair issues (leaks, alarms, etc.);
    • Complete other related duties as assigned.

      Required Qualifications:

      • High School diploma or equivalent with at least three years of electrical maintenance experience or completion of technical school / accredited two-year program with at least one year of field experience;
      • Experience and competency with electrical systems and controls, including both electrical and pneumatic;
      • Technical working knowledge of industrial electrical equipment;
      • Experience using multi-meters for checking AC/DC voltages, amperage meters on AC/DC circuits, meggaring of AC/DC motors;
      • Read, write, speak, and comprehend English to understand written and verbal instructions, SOPs, etc.;
      • Acceptable attendance and performance;
      • Work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required (including 10-hour shifts as needed and on-call);
      • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
      • Work independently and self-directed with minimal supervision;
      • Detail oriented with the ability to demonstrate good record-keeping practices;
      • Ability to read/interpret blueprints and diagrams;
      • Ability to multitask, troubleshoot, use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations;
      • Ability to work safely in an environment containing hazardous chemicals, high and low-temperature liquids, high-pressure liquids and gasses, steam, and moving machinery;
      • General knowledge of shop tools and safe operation;
      • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, MODA;
      • Ability to operate or learn to operate a forklift, scissor-lift, JLG;
      • Be able to lift up to ?50 lbs. and push/pull up to ?350 lbs. with assistance;
      • Be able to withstand frequent repetitive movement, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), and sitting;
      • Be able to wear protective clothing (PPE) as required;
      • Be able to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and drafts;
      • Be able to identify color-coded labels;
      • Be able to pass an eye exam - includes testing for near vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
      • Meet Occupational Demands/Physical Requirement checklist.

        Preferred Qualifications:

        • Proficient knowledge of other trades (Instrumentation, Plumbing, HVAC/R);
        • Knowledge of SAP;
        • Hepatitis B vaccine.
