The primary responsibilities of this role, Maintenance Technician B/HVACR, are to:

  • Perform scheduled predictive and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and project support of HVAC/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) equipment;
  • Be responsible for performing daily maintenance work schedule attainment, data recording, and reporting of work orders;
  • Be responsible for assessing the accuracy of HVAC/R PM procedures and providing feedback to the document owner;
  • Be responsible for maintaining State, Federal and Site compliance for refrigerant and oils and reporting discrepancies;
  • Be responsible for supporting and complying with Bayer Berkeley's commitment to health, safety, and environmental protection initiatives and programs;
  • Demonstrate safe work practices including all relevant HSES procedures, attend safety meetings as required, and report to relevant personnel (e.g. supervisor, etc.) of any non-conforming conditions;
  • Perform certifications of permanent and portable environmental monitoring equipment, HEPA Filter testing, and all required documentation;
  • Be responsible for proper operation and periodic certification of site-wide laboratory fume hoods and bio-safety cabinets;
  • Be responsible for providing equipment reliability feedback, such as notification damage codes and logbook entries for issues and/or adverse trends;
  • Interact with Plant Engineers to provide problem-solving expertise on specific HVAC and Refrigeration systems;
  • Perform pre-task plan and Job Safety Analysis (JSA 's);
  • Provide support to Project Management group installations and inquiries for expertise;
  • Oversee the proper operation and periodic certification of sitewide laboratory fume hoods and bio-safety cabinets in conjunction with plant engineering;
  • Interface with maintenance scheduler and provide (HVAC/R) craft support for troubleshooting and repairs of equipment;
  • Review all completed work orders and verifying completion of work, reporting discrepancies, verifying work order history is complete, and closing out the work order;
  • Provide technical and/or manpower support to the site to ensure equipment reliability;
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical components associated with HVAC/R equipment;
  • Perform problem-solving on specific Electrical issues related to the air handlers, control panels, freezer, cold room, exhaust fans, hot and cold water systems, and condensate pumps;
  • Check de-energized electrical components IAW NFPA 70E requirements;
  • Perform troubleshooting IAW NFPA 70E requirements;
  • Have experience using multi-meters for checking AC/DC voltages, amperage meters on AC/DC circuits, meggaring of AC/DC motors, and basic operation and troubleshooting of VFDs;
  • Be able to assist with the following "all craft" maintenance tasks;
  • Change valve diaphragms (non-feedback valves);
  • Support functional checks and calibration readings;
  • Work on the mechanical portion of control valves (diaphragm and bonnet);
  • Support HVAC/R 1) Filter changes, and 2) Taking reading for Magnehelic gauges and read A/H air flows and filter d/p 's off of control panels;
  • Rig (?500 lbs.);
  • Safely monitor PM 's/CAL 's (example door watch for freezer work);
  • Replace Sanitary piping gaskets for non-calibrations;
  • Investigate and report/repair issues (leaks, alarms, etc.);
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent with at least three years of HVAC maintenance experience, or completion of technical school / accredited two-year program or applicable military experience with at least two years of field experience;
    • EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certification in handling refrigerants;
    • Experience and competency with HVAC/Refrigeration systems and controls, both electrical and pneumatic;
    • Technical working knowledge of PCS (Process Control System) and Electrical utilities;
    • Ability to read/interpret blueprints and diagrams;
    • Ability to operate or learn to operate a forklift, scissor-lift, JLG;
    • General knowledge of shop tools and safe operation;
    • Read, write, speak, and comprehend English in order to understand written and verbal instructions, SOP 's, etc.;
    • Follow directions, written or verbal;
    • Acceptable attendance and performance;
    • Work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required (including 10- hour shifts as needed);
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
    • Work independently and self-directed with minimal supervision;
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to demonstrate good record-keeping practices;
    • Ability to multitask, troubleshoot, use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations;
    • Computer skills, use of laptop, tablet, HMI, PLC, including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, MODA;
    • Be able to lift up to ?75 lbs. and push/pull up to ?650 lbs. with assistance;
    • Be able to withstand frequent repetitive movement, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), and sitting;
    • Be able to climb up to ?30 feet and/or ?3 stories;
    • Be able to wear protective clothing (PPE) as required;
    • Be able to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and drafts;
    • Be able to identify color-coded labels;
    • Be able to pass an eye exam - includes testing for near vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
    • Meet Occupational Demands/Physical Requirement checklist.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Proficient knowledge of other trades (Instrumentation, Plumbing, Electrical);
      • SAP experience;
      • Hepatitis B vaccine.
